I've always been bothered by the phrase "God wants a personal relationship with you." It has never set right with me when I have heard preachers say this. The phrase makes Him sound like a unconfident school girl dreamy eyed over her first crush. I've even said it before out of habit of hearing it so much, and cringed inside when it left my mouth. I'm sure it made me sound like I was channeling Joel Osteen, so I can only pray it was unconvincing and hopefully ignored as it was WRONG.
I don't believe God is hoping to update His Facebook profile to "In a Relationship" once you finally succumb to His advances. God is self sustaining and doesn't need anything outside of Himself, let alone a relationship with any mere mortal to be complete! That's what makes Him God. To be loved by God is an honor, not a fulfillment of any desperation on his part.
So don't misguide yourself into believing that only you can fill the emotional holes in God's heart. God doesn't have any emotional holes. God loves you because He is love, that is it. It is He who fills our emotional holes, our emptiness, our desperation. That's a Big difference.
God doesn't "Want a relationship with you," so get over yourself.
