To understand the Bible, we are taught to filter everything through a modernist/scientific prism that immediately dismisses much of what the Bible contends for. We have replaced eye witness history with a history totally invented out the minds of men who do not believe in God.
I read a post on the Christian Standard website the other day, though it was a few years old. It was trashing small groups and I found it . . . interesting, to say the least. It was talking about how small groups just don't work and how the "super preachers" have been trying to force this unsuccessful paradigm down the churches throat for 30 years. The author was taking a stand, and saying "It's got to stop!"
I continue to be more and more amazed at how the modernist church approach has engrained itself into the very essence of the real New Testament church. Being from the Restoration Movement, the irony of completely missing what a real New Testament looks like speaks volumes to the failure of our movement.
Even though I agree with some of the article, I contend it is not the small group that is the problem, but the modernist church service. I say, let's get rid of regimented entertainment oriented church service and have small groups Sunday morning instead!
