Habakkuk 1:3 (NIV)
Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.
Habakkuk 1:9 (NIV)
they all come bent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand.
In times we are facing, many wonder what is the Biblical view, or the Christian response to such issues like Covid-19 and the riots that are destroying the cities of America. Let's begin.
One week ago, George Floyd, the man who was arrested and held down by knee for over 6 minutes died on the street to the horror of us all. As a nation, all the way up to the president, we condemned the murder. Trump called for an instant FBI investigation and the officer was arrested and charged with murder.
Two months ago we were told that a computer model from the U.K. was predicting millions would die if the world did not hunker down and socially distance. We were told to flatten the curve so that hospitals would not be overrun. As good citizens we did this. A computer model by Neil Ferguson was the driving force that changed Boris Johnson's plan from "ride it out" to strict social distancing. This was the main study Dr. Fauci used to persuade President Trump to do the same. Only Sweden, of all the western nations, decided to ride it out without shutting down its society.
Fast forward to today. Gangs of marauders are literally burning down their neighborhoods, stealing from department stores, beating innocent shop owners, and shooting police officers. Media is calling the violence "protest" and seems to be encouraging more of it to happen. Also, Mayors are telling the vandals they will not be prosecuted.
The virus was difficult, but not nearly as devastating as predicted. Numbers are being revised down as many deaths did not die solely of Covid. New York got the worst of it, but did not break its hospital capacity, and did not use the medical ships sent to its harbor or the multiple temporary hospitals built by army engineers. Great news right? Wrong. States like New Mexico changed the goal from "flattening the curse" to zero deaths. This is not possible, as flattening the curve rightly assumed the virus would eventually spread, but would buy us time to get ready. No one can totally stop a virus or a flu. Strangely abortion mills stayed open, but my daughter could not get braces.
According the U.K. Daily Mail, Neil Ferguson, did not follow his own advice. During lockdown he defied the social distancing order he demanded of us and continued an adulterous relationship across town. Also, he now admits Sweden did just as well as everyone else by staying open and just protecting its elderly. Remember Italy, the nation that convinced us all to stay home? Reuters is now reporting Italy is down to almost zero Covid cases. Just like Pharaoh's magicians, or Nebuchadnezzar counselors, the expert is not always right, if ever.
Destroying neighborhoods is not protesting, no matter what the main stream media calls it. They are lying to our faces. RIOTING dishonors George Floyd and the media is now complicit in the death of many police officers. George's brother says he would have been opposed to tearing America apart in his name. In my opinion as a preacher, these rioters are just a guilty as the policeman who killed him and all will stand before God.
So what is the Christian response to all these lies? Repent. Judgement is coming.
