"Jesus the Author and Finisher of our Faith"
John 1:1-5 NKJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Intro:
Thought
Colossians 1:16-17
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were
created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
Deed
Verse 5 states that Jesus is pure light with no darkness at all. If you know the
truth, then you can understand. You can’t comprehend until you can see clearly.
Darkness is the absence of light. You can have degrees of darkness, but only one
light. You can be correct only in only one way, yet wrong a million ways.
This little light of mine, are you going to let it shine?
Application
If Jesus is the author, how does he define concepts that society questions today?
Genesis 2:27
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Acts 17:26
And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and
has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings
Ephesians 4:5
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
Heb 12:2 "Jesus the Author and Finisher of our Faith!
Who is the author of your life? Are you creating fiction or are you following the script? You will find more freedom doing things God's way than trying to recreate the world after your own image.

Intro:
- Logos the Greek word logos, meaning in a picture
- Golden arches = McDonald’s; Blue Oval on a Truck = Ford; Grey Apple on your computer = Apple iPhone
- Meaning is infused into the icon, like the Cross for Christianity. You know instantly what is being communicated because of the logos!
- Jesus is called the Word in verse 1, but what is a Logos?
- Why does John describe Jesus as the “word”?
- Logos means logic, reason, word.
- Greek philosophers believed a logos created the Universe! They debated the Materialist that argued we all came from animals.
- The Evolution/Creation debate goes back before the time of Christ. There is nothing new under the Sun! Compare vs 3
- Therefore, John chose “Word” or “logos” to describe Jesus, because Jesus was the creative mind that spoke the universe into existence!
- I would suggest in future translations, to really get the point across, don’t just call him the word, call him the author!
Heb 12:2 “Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith”
Thought
- Verse 2, “He was in the beginning with God”
- And “God Said” in Gen 1:3,6,9,11,14,20,24,26,29
- When you are not sure about the meaning of art, you must go to the Artist.
- A child’s drawing can leave you befuddled!
- Jesus is the creator, so if He makes it, He defines it! He spoke it into existence!

Genesis 2:27
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
- In Marriage: Only One, between a man a woman
- Only two sexes, gender actually means birth! (Latin genus ‘birth')
- Women are helpers to men.
- Dave Chapelle, in The Closer said all people are born of a woman
- Jesus made mankind: male and female!
Acts 17:26
And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and
has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings
- In Race: Only One
- We are all children of Adam, no cavemen or evolution!
- Critical Race Theory is racism and parents are standing up
- Jesus made mankind with much variety but with One Blood
Ephesians 4:5
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
- In Salvation: There is only one!
- One Lord: Jesus; One Faith: Believe in Jesus; One Baptism: Jesus' Baptism
- He said "It is finished!" John 19:30
- Salvation is in Jesus only!
Heb 12:2 "Jesus the Author and Finisher of our Faith!
